Exciting news for manga enthusiasts! Shogakukan's Monthly Shonen Sunday magazine has unveiled its plans for an upcoming manga series by the talented Kiminori Wakasugi. Titled "Akina-chan Kamigakaru" (Akina-chan is Possessed by a God), this enchanting tale follows the life of Akina, a gifted manga creator who is determined to craft her next sensational masterpiece. However, her world takes a mysterious turn when a manga-like phenomenon unexpectedly occurs around her. At the same time, her distant hometown experiences an inexplicable and otherworldly unfolding.
Fans can mark their calendars for the manga's release, scheduled to hit the shelves on August 12th, appearing in the September issue of the magazine.
Kiminori Wakasugi is no stranger to success in the manga world. His previous work, "Drunk Jiangshis," serialized in Hakusensha's Young Animal magazine from October 2021, concluded with its final chapter published on February 10. For those who enjoyed his work, the third and ultimate compiled volume was released on May 29.
Wakasugi's talent has been recognized in other ventures as well. In April 2018, he initiated the manga "Ashita no Esa Kimi Dakara" in Kodansha's Monthly Young Magazine, which received widespread acclaim and concluded its extraordinary journey with the release of its tenth volume on June 20.
Prior to that, he mesmerized readers with "Rhyming Man," serialized in Young Animal from May 2017 until its completion in December 2018.
One of Wakasugi's most notable achievements is "Detroit Metal City," which concluded in 2010 and garnered popularity both within and beyond Japan's borders. Its success led to its publication in North America by Viz Media, as well as an inspiring live-action film and an original video anime.
The mangaka's career started with "All Esper Dayo!" in 2009, a series that ran until 2015 and had such a profound impact that it inspired a TV series, a special episode, a movie, and a web series.
